Frequently Asked Questions

Q.  How long do I have to wait to get a wheaten puppy?
A.  When purchasing a puppy from a reputable hobby breeder, sometimes
the wait can be long and up to a year wait is not unheard of.   Reputable
hobby breeders are not producing puppies for quantity and many may even
have a waiting list for their puppies before they are even born.  It is best to
make contact with a breeder, fill out necessary applications, and ask to be
put on their wait list for upcoming litters.

Q.  Do wheatens have any health concerns that I should be aware of
before purchasing a puppy?
A.  Common health concerns in wheaten terriers is PLE, PLN, RD and
Addison's disease.  Please check out
www.scwtca.org/health for more
information regarding these diseases.

Q.  Do you only sell show puppies?
A.  Burdigan Wheatens is made up of a very small breeding program.  We
carefully evaluate our bitches and our stud dogs and find the best match
possible to produce puppies that meet as close as possible to the breed
standard.  The puppies that meet the closest to this standard are kept or
placed as show puppies.  Not all puppies will meet this standard and will be
placed as pet puppies on spay/neuter contracts.  Just because a puppy
doesn't meet show standards does not mean he/she will not look like or act
like a wheaten.  Pet puppies are still beautiful wheatens with excellent
personalities.

Q.  Do you sell breeding dogs or pairs?
A.  None of our wheaten terriers are sold to be bred.  They are either sold
on a show contract with a co-ownership or a spay/neuter contract.
No Exceptions.

Q.  Do you only sell locally?
A.  Our wheaten terrier puppies go to loving homes in the Spokane area,
Seattle area, Portland area and Idaho area.  We would consider further
areas upon personal evaluations.

Q. How do you determine who may purchase a puppy?
A.  We never guarantee our puppies to anyone.  We talk with each family by
phone, review their puppy application, discuss any concerns and finally
decide if one of the available puppies will match the interested families
lifestyle.  Preference is given to families that will consider a show puppy.
Please ask us what is required to be considered a show home.

Q. How often does my wheaten need to be groomed?
A.  We recommend brushing your Wheaten every 2-3 days to prevent
matting.  Professional grooming is recommended every 4-6 weeks.  Our
puppy owners are given tips on how to keep their puppy clean and mat free.
